French Aptware Marbled Royal Blue Plate

$145.00

Aptware, named for the small town in France where it originated, was developed around mid-18th century. The beautifully colored marbleized faience pottery was naturally inspired by the colored soils in that region. Aptware is mainly from Apt, but also other areas of Provence.  These are not painted but instead the clay is colored using each artist’s unique mixture and then combined to form the marbleized pattern using a technique dating back to the 1700s.

This particular plate is in a darker tone royal blue and combined with a warm white. This was the preferred color combination of Louis XV. It also features the classic cream edge, highlighting the unique shape.

Dimensions: 8 IN D

Condition: New
